We Exchanged Trucks for Karts
6.12.2011
A completely different race than what we are used to. We have replaced one of our racing trucks with a minimalist open kart. Although there was no European champion’s title at stake this time, the race proved that even our team manager Mario Kress is at home behind the wheel and the other team members make skilled drivers, too.
‘If I hadn’t seen it on my own eyes, I wouldn’t believe how excited everyone was, going mad about it. Everybody took the race seriously and it was great to see the guys, who are normally on the other side, as heated pilots,“ said the organizer of the kart trophy in the German town of Fulda and our pilot Markus Oestreich.
It was Oese who prepared the whole contest attended, together with other invited guests, by all our team members. Mechanics, electro-engineers, journalists, as well as the team’s management themselves put on racing suits, helmets and got into the racing karts. And the race wasn’t taken lightly. ‘First of all, we gave the karts a proper try in the free practice, then the measured practice including qualification followed after which came the ninety-minute race of groups with three members each. It was just awesome. Markus did a great job getting everything ready,‘ appreciated the electro-engineer Bedřich Frieser the idea to swap roles for a while.
Each member of the racing trio got to steer the wheel twice in the ninety-minute session. The fastest team managed to go round the track two hundred times, with the winner decided by a crash at the very end. ‘Our team was leading the pack and we thought that only a strike of bad luck can take away the win from us. But then our mechanic hit me off the track and we lost the several seconds of headstart. I think somebody’s gonna lose the bonus here, cutting off his boss like that?‘ commented jokingly Mario Kress, who was beaten by the pilot’s son Moritz Oestreich, securing a tight overall victory for his team. The “Boss“ team had to content themselves with a silver, while the bronze went to the group around the skilled senior Markus Oestreich, followed by Bösiger’s and Lacko’s teams. ‘Moritz blew them away. No wonder, he’s going in his father’s footsteps,‘ winked the proud father Markus.
