After Moto GP, the Czech Republic is going to host another huge motor sport event. Already this weekend, the mighty engines are going to thunder at the racing track in Most, where the seventh event of the European Championship will be held. And especially Czech fans should be on alert – truck racing is a different sport than Formula 1, which usually runs on Sundays.
“The track’s schedule starts with Friday’s free practice but in truck racing, Saturday is as important as Sunday. It doesn’t mean that Saturday is the qualification day and Sunday is reserved for the programme’s finale, similar to Formula 1. Both days are of equal weight, the schedule itself is identical, so the audience don’t need to worry that they would miss something. We need and value their support for the whole weekend,“ cleared the matter the team’s manager Karel Neffe.
The biggest impact has the qualifying round, where the first ten fastest racers match their abilities in a timed practice superpole. This determines the arrangement of the starting grid for the main race, whose winner records twenty valuable points in the Championship’s ranking. “The superpole is always the most important part because its winner gets an open space in front of him and if he doesn’t make a mistake or gets hit, he has a solid chance to succeed at the end. However, once he mixes with other pilots, the risk of collision increases,“ explained Karel Neffe.
Half of the points, that is ten for the first spot, is distributed after the afternoon „handicap“ race, where the first eight from the main race exchanges their starting positions, so that the winner begins on rank eight. “This race is more a spectator event because the trucks keep hitting each other as they’re making their way to the front. Handicap races are especially frowned upon by mechanics, quite often the car comes at least without its plastic covers,“ smiled the manager, who is happy to invite the audience to Most for both of the weekend days, which will be featured by DMV – Touring Car or Formula Renault 2.0 races
