Oestreich visits the podium twice
21.5.2011
Twice during the first day at the Italian circuit of Misano Markus Oestreich stood on the podium. In the first cup race he took third place and he followed that up with second place in the handicap race. The king of the day was the German, Jochen Hahn, who won both races at the second round of the European truck racing championship.
Despite his two podiums Oese was not so happy with the first day. „We can do better. I don´t know exactly where the problem was but I didn´t drive to my absolute satisfaction. Third and second place is not bad but we want to be winning,“ summarized the championship leader.
From the beginning we were a little tense. While in Donington Oestreich won super pole and then in style led both cup races from start to finish, this time MAN showed more power with the German Hahn and the Spanish Albacete who took the first two positions in the cup race. Nicely surprised was our young driver Adam Lacko who finished just off the podium in both races claiming two 4th places. „I am very happy with the truck. It is a shame that I couldn´t avoid some small collisions on the track which caused me to not reach the podium. But two fourth positions to start the weekend is not bad,“ said our junior driver Lacko.
The second handicap race was very tough where after several collisions several drivers failed to finish the race. Shortly after the start, Germany´s Uwe Nittel forced our Markus Bosiger out of the race but he had a bitter pill to swallow because in the first race he reached „only“ sixth position and then scored no points in the handicap race. „If I have to be polite I just can say that I had bad luck on Saturday. I don´t want to think about it too much otherwise I will get mad,“ said with a bit of disapointment Markus Bosiger who after the crash lost all air pressure causing the truck to become undriveable resulting in it being taken back to garage by tow truck.
In the handicap race a time penalty issued after the race to the reigning Champion Antonio Albacete dropped him from second to third position. Oestreich eventually took second. The happiest driver today happy was the winner of both races, Germany´s Jochen Hahn.
Markus Oestreich still leads the drivers Championship whilst both of our teams reached the podium in the team championship.
