No time to celebrate, the team is concentrating on Jarama
28.9.2011
The last but one stop of the European Truck Racing Championship in the Spanish town of Jarama is planned for this weekend. And a lot will be at stake. The front is packed in the individuals‘ as well as the teams‘ competition. Even the smallest mistake could tear down our, still big, dreams, and that is why everyone is focusing on the result so much. No wonder that not even Adam Lacko‘s weekend birthday party – the whole team wishes Adam all the best! - unleashed a premature celebration.
“No celebration at all. I said we were gonna leave it until after the season. There’ll be enough time for that and it could be more spectacular if we manage to reach the team’s targets, holding our positions or improving them. And then I’ll be more than happy to celebrate,“ said Adam Lacko, who did not care one bit about his twenty-seventh birthday which fell on Saturday.
Almost the whole team set off for the venue where the ninth event is going to take place. “We’ve got a three-day trip ahead of us. If everything goes well, we should be at the track by Wednesday. Then we just need to unpack our stuff and prepare everything so that other team members can join us, including all the three pilots,“ explained the manager Karel Neffe.
The pilots cannot wait for the two days of torture that is going to come at the weekend, although they are well aware of the fact that the race is taking place at the home track of Antonio Albacete, last year’s champion. “We’ll see how big a role it’s going to play. But I like the track in Jarama because there are usually many spectators there. It’s technically difficult, sometimes really narrow, so the overtaking manoeuvres can cost us the plastics. It depends on each single situation though. The most decisive thing is luck, if a technical problem occurs at the wrong moment, you can’t do much about it and we could lose a lot,“ realizes Lacko.
In spite of all the tension and tiny point differences, nobody wants to admit the pressure. “The chicane behind the paddock is always lined with fans, there are always guys with their motor saws on, making fun and cheering, so I’m really looking forward to the atmosphere,“ winked the always smiling Markus Oestreich.
