Mario flabbergasted after coming back from France
14.10.2011
The Thursday return from the racing weekend in Le Mans and the following exhibition at the Renault Trucks factory took our boss Mario Kress by surprise, to say the least. Instead of enjoying the positive response to the team’s victorious performance in France and the sensational season’s ending in general, after we reached for the third place in the European Championship’s overall ranking and the silver and bronze medals in the constructors’ competition, it came as a cold shower when rumours doubting our success occurred. While Mario’s already bursting with ideas for the next season, our Czech opponent has been overwhelmed with the past.
“I’m speechless. I didn’t have any idea about what was going on here. For all the discussions and meetings related to the 2012 season, I didn’t even make the time to check out the Internet. My thoughts are somewhere else already. I’m trying to come up with improvements that could speed up our Renaults so that we can get into the fight over the European champion‘s title, in the individual and the team competition,“ commented Mario on the situation, his face aflame with bewilderment over the fact that the unfortunate collision in the third race at Le Mans is still an issue although it took place almost a week ago. “It’s even more astounding when you consider that our team MKR Technology wasn’t a part of this crash in any way,“ reminds Mario and adds, “If I were in the position of our Czech opponent, I would analyze the matter differently. First of all, it is necessary to look at it from both points of view – my own and the other collision’s participants‘. In order to do this, you need to put together as much information as possible – videos, photos, information from the team’s as well as the opponent‘s pilots, etc. Since various theories occurred, I took the time to collect the necessary material and got into analyzing it myself. As I see it, the very first mistake took place already at the start, which didn’t go well for David Vršecký, who was starting from the first place. Later on, I found out that he gave too much power and get a wheelspin. Obviously, his opponents responded to this, trying to overtake, which is a natural reaction in any kind of motorsport. Consequently, Albacete and Janiec, who started behind Vršecký, got to his level. Albacete attempted to make use of the situation and fight for the best possible position. Although he had a plenty of room on the right side, he steered his car in the opposing direction against Janiec, trying to maintain his position. Janiec, who got into a kind of sandwich between the two drivers, was struggling to get out and stay in the race by stepping on the brakes. A mass collision followed, which, as far as I can tell, wouldn’t have happened had Antonio Albacete maintained his course, not steering to the left. However, it’s all a matter of tens of seconds and, as the Czech proverb goes: ‘after the battle, everyone’s a general’.”
According to Mario, it is a shame that the management of our Czech rival did not wait for the emotions to cool down, making the effort to assess the situation rationally. The stories published in different kinds of media such as Facebook, press or Internet websites, clearly show that we are under fire, the team as a whole as well as our boss Mario Kress personally. “I refrain from commenting on some of the statements posted on our opponent‘s website because the last thing I wish for is to start a war over nothing and become a laughing stock for the truckracing world and its fans. If I were in the shoes of our competitor‘s boss, the person who published this nonsense wouldn’t be working for me any longer,“ concluded the discussion Mario.
