Mario: Our opponents did a great job but my guys tried their best
25.5.2011
He always crosses his fingers tight. Every race, every training session, on and on again as his pilots slam the gas pedals of Renaults he has built, he sticks to his ritual no matter what. Our team’s boss Mario Kress literally lives for truck racing and works with his team in that way – to be the one who dictates the pace of the European championship series. However, after the second stop in Misano, Italy, he rolled his eyes in disbelief a few times, but finally, with his typical determination to fight, he brought up his mantra: “Innovation has no limits, it’s a matter of time.“ It’s as simple as that, Mario never gives up and turns every failure into a driving force on the way to victory.
Mario, how was the last weekend in Misano for your team?
How should I put it? Not really according to my expectations because we did a lot of tests and we were prepared very well. Between the races in Donington and Misano we were in Most and I’m a hundred percent sure that everything and everyone was in the best possible shape. Unfortunately, our adversaries were able to make improvements along with us and I must say that I have nothing but respect for them. Jochen Hahn and Antonio Albacete did a great job. We were also successful in improving the crucial parameter – speed. Not by much, that’s true, maybe by three or four tenths, but it’s necessary to catch up on everything. Of course, three tenths make a huge difference and they play their role for example in the handicap race.
Are you happy with the results as such?
When I sum up everything, the Saturday result is acceptable, we just couldn’t win because Jochen and Antonio had an excellent race. Then we had bad luck with our „good friend“ Nittel. I must say that we both felt with Buggyra‘s David Vršecký that Uwe did something terrible and that everyone who saw pictures of the collision must have been horrified. He did the same right before him when he caught out our Bösiger. Moreover, in Donington he was penalized for his driving style but I believe it was too lenient and didn’t have much effect.
We did a fantastic job in Sunday training. Regarding individual performances, Adam had a great weekend. He got two fourth spots, which is absolutely amazing, given the fact that he’s the team‘s newbie. The same on Sunday, when he won the timed practice. Unfortunately, as it is often the case in truck racing, luck is not always on your side. There was a collision in the first race where Adam and Oese lost their positions from the superpole and Adam was deceived by technology in the afternoon handicap race, when his differential failed. This is where we need to do the analysis because I’m not sure what exactly happened there. Bösiger and Oestreich tried to do their best and thanks to that, to everyone’s joy, both of them made it to the podium.
What’s going to come before you set off to the Albacete event?
At the moment we’re trying to analyze everything we found out in Misano and contemplate our next step to minimize the difference in Albacete. Part of the team are staying in Italy, where our machines are going to go through servicing and then they’re all moving straight to Spain. The engine section guys are coming back to continue testing of the engine on the motor brake so that we can try out several configurations and determine the ideal setting for Albacete.
