Lacko Scores in the Golden Steering Wheel Survey
26.1.2012
Our pilot Adam Lacko accepted an award in the prestigious Golden Steering Wheel survey. In the closely-observed category of track race pilots the jury awarded him with a third place, similar to his ranking in the last year’s Truck European Championship. As usual, the survey was ruled by Tomáš Enge.
‘Tomáš collects these awards just as Karel Gott does the Nightingale Music Awards, the only difference being that he receives steering wheels. This time I thought the first prize would go to Josef Král. But I’m happy with the result, third place is very nice. This survey is really prestigious. As I already said – singers have the Czech Nightingale Music Awards, motorsport drivers are rewarded with the Golden Steering Wheel, so landing one of the top ranks is a big thing,‘ commented Adam Lacko, who, together with his colleagues, accepted the prize at a gala evening in Žofín Palace, Prague.
In his category, our Lacko was beaten only by the triumphant Enge and the second Josef Král, driver of the GP2 formula series. For Enge this is not the first prize in the motorsport survey. ‘I had the chance to enjoy the podium in 2004 already. Back then I accepted two prizes altogether for my third place in the overall European Championship ranking in the Race Truck category. Same as now, I placed third among the circuit pilots plus the Jiří Sedlář Award for pilots under 23 years of age,‘ remembered Lacko.
The Golden Steering Wheel Award is a survey in which the most successful automotive drivers of the last season are chosen by expert journalists. Having been established in1976, the category of track races has been awarded since the first year. And it is no one else but Tomáš Enge, the only Czech to have started in Formula 1, who will remain an unbeaten legend for a long time. At Žofín Palace he was awarded with already a twelfth Steering Wheel in his career. During the gala more awards were presented, including the Golden Handlebars to the motorcycle pilot Karel Abrahám.
Results – The Golden Steering Wheel Award 2011 – Track Races: 1. Tomáš Enge 237, 2. Josef Král 217, 3. Adam Lacko 142, 4. Tomáš Kostka 54, 5. Petr Fulín 49, 6. Jan Charouz 46.
