Lacko: I stopped breathing for a while

Lacko: I stopped breathing for a whileIn Most he collected the highest number of points in this year’s season, stood on the winners‘ podium for three times, recorded wins before his fans and helped his colleagues Bösiger and Oestreich reach a historic result, when they occupied the podium exclusively for themselves. Our pilot Adam Lacko confirmed his position of Czech number one.

Adam, what does the seventh weekend of the European Championship series mean to you?
It’s definitely an important race as regards sponsors, partners, and one in which many of my friends gave me a lot of support. You feel really strongly that you’re at home and don’t want to disappoint yourself and neither the expectations others have of you.

Do you even have the time to enjoy the celebrities around?
It’s certainly a pleasant thing but I must confess that on Sunday evening I’m happy the race is over. The weekend here is much more demanding than anywhere else in the world, where I share my time with the team and family members only. Here you need to pay attention to the sponsors, partners and many other important matters, which makes things harder psychologically. Fortunately, I don’t take it so seriously, so I try to enjoy everything. Anyway, it’s an exhausting weekend.

You definitely had a lot to show. How did it feel in the historical moment when all three of you, teammates, jumped up to the podium?
Well, don’t forget that it was a close shave. I literally crawled rather then drove to the finish. My differential broke after the first chicane in the first lap. I stopped breathing for a while there. Luckily, I somehow made it to the finishing line on the third place and we made the dream come true. It’s for the first time in history when one team with three cars has all of them on the winners podium. It was a fantastic feeling.

What did you think seeing your boss cry?
I didn’t even see him. I think I came after he was done crying. I guess he managed to cry all the tears of happiness before I got to him. As I said, it was a wonderful experience which made everyone just giddy. Full podium was Mario’s big dream at the very start of the season, so I’m delighted that we turned it into reality at the home track. In the very first moment, I felt relieved that I made it across the finishing line though.

Could you even expect such a successful weekend?
I had one win and two third spots, although they took one of the bronzes away from
me, quite unreasonably I believe. It wasn’t fair but otherwise I’m satisfied. I wouldn’t have thought that the weekend in Most would turn out this way. I’m happy that it was a kind of follow-up on the Russian victory but the next race on our schedule in Zolder clearly proves that the season is going on. We need to look into the future and focus on what is to come.

You are currently on the third rank. Do you think you’ll be able to take it even higher?
Personally, I wouldn’t look higher but rather try to defend the position I have now. It’s gonna be complicated. This time I collected forty-four points and Vršecký behind me was second with thirty-three points, so it’s gonna be hard to keep the third place. If there are any technical complications, everything’s possible. In truck racing you never now. Same as here, everything went just fine and suddenly I was without a differential in the last lap, happy to see the finish. If we keep the bronze or not, or if we improve it, that’s gonna be an issue after the last race in Le Mans.
