Double for our pilots again in Jarama

2.10.2011

Double for our pilots again in JaramaThe Saturday Qualifying session produced a fantastic result for the trio of Meritor-sponsored MKR Renaults – with Markus Bosiger topping the timesheets with a lap of 1m.58.240s. Markus Oestreich joined him on the front row - just 0.358s slower than his team-mate – while Adam Lacko completed a top three lock-out, only 0.125s. behind the German. Local hero Antonio Albacete lined up 4th on the grid with fellow MAN driver and championship leader Jochen Hahn 6th fastest.

Conditions were hot and dry for Saturday’s Championship race 1 – and for Markus Bosiger it proved to be a perfect opening event as the speedy Swiss driver took a comfortable start-to-finish victory, leading every one of the 12 laps and taking the chequered flag 3.2 seconds clear.

The battle for the remaining podium places was really fierce; Oestreich held 2nd into the first turn while Albacete slotted into 3rd, ahead of Lacko.

The trio were seldom separated by more than a few fractions of a second as the Spanish driver tried every trick he knew to try and move up to the runner-up spot. But despite his considerable knowledge of the Jarama track there was nothing he could do to pass the talented Oestreich – and the Renault driver held on for second place 0.25s ahead on the line.

Adam Lacko was also in the heart of the action, just waiting to grasp any opportunity to move up to third place – but the Czech driver finally settled for a fighting 4th, just 1 second behind Albacete at the chequered flag.

A great start to the weekend for the MKR Technology Team with 1st, 2nd and 4th places – plus first in the Teams’ competition. A strong 9th for Anthony Janiec added to Lacko’s result also meant that the MKR Team 14 Juniors collected 3rd place in the teams’ competition.

The second championship race on Saturday was inevitably going to be harder for the MKR drivers – with the ‘Reverse Grid’ format in operation for the top 8, Bosiger and Oestreich were starting back on the fourth row of the grid.

Indeed these two drivers finished up exactly where they started – in 7th and 8th positions. However, Bosiger collected a 20-seconds time penalty for overspeeding – and therefore dropped to 11th in the official results while Oestreich was finally classified 6th.

But Adam Lacko was in a really determined mood – and the young Czech driver made excellent progress to move up from 5th on the grid to a fabulous third at the chequered flag – headed home only by on-form Albacete and runner-up Hahn.

At the end of the first day of competition in Spain the fight for the Teams’ Championship title is starting to get very interesting: Truck Sport Bernau still top the tables but the MKR Technology team is getting ever closer.
